Getting to know... Gary Edwards, Finance Manager

Meet Gary Edwards, MLA’s dedicated Finance Manager! Gary’s main objective is to assist in managing information and ensuring MLA is operating as effectively as possible while adhering to any set targets. Learn more about Gary, his role and what makes him tick below.

1. What are your main responsibilities?

As the Finance Manager at MLA my main responsibilities are to ensure the department is running as effectively as possible, as well as ensuring all work is processed each month to make sure the production of the month-end accounts is as easy as possible.

2. What’s the most rewarding area of your work?

Producing the month-end accounts and showing a decent bottom-line for MLA.

3. What made you want to get into your current area of work?

I enjoyed maths at school and always liked solving problems so finance was something I always wanted to do.

4. Where have you worked prior to MLA?

After finishing school, I worked at a haulage company, and then later moved on to Silverbeck Rymer before joining MLA.

5. Tell us something surprising about your job.

Everyone I work with is really nice to me... but perhaps that’s because I’m in charge of the money!

6. What has been the best moment of your career?

When the old Finance Manager went on maternity leave suddenly – without completing handover – I was thrown in at the deep end. I think this is when I really stepped up to the plate.

7. What has been your greatest personal achievement?

My greatest personal achievement is my two kids – they are amazing.

8. Where were you born/where did you grow up?

I was born in Bootle and grew up there.

9. Please tell us three fun facts about you.

Not sure these are fun, but…

  1. I still try to keep active and play football every Thursday.
  2. I can’t wait for Saturday for the football season to start.
  3. I’m very competitive but never win anything!

10. Do you have any pets?

I have no pets as my son is scared of dogs.

11. What is your ideal holiday?

A nice, relaxing beach holiday... but with the kids holidays aren’t so relaxing these days.

12. What would your autobiography be called?

I’ve never thought of that before, something like ‘My Way’.

13. Tea or coffee?

Coffee!

14. What are the best things in life?

Depends what mood I’m in… sometimes it’s weekends out with friends and family, and other times it’s quiet time just relaxing with my wife and kids.
