MLA is investing in its technology and project delivery capability, and this is a newly created role at the heart of that journey. Reporting directly to the Head of IT, Projects & Reporting, the Business Analyst will act as the critical bridge between the operational business and IT, translating complex business needs into clear, deliverable requirements that drive real change.

The business operates a legal case management system alongside a Microsoft 365 and Azure environment, with a growing portfolio of workflow automation and integration projects.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on engaging with stakeholders across the business, understanding what is really needed and producing requirements and documentation that make projects succeed.

Key responsibilities

Requirements Gathering & Analysis

  • Engage with stakeholders across Operations, Commercial, Finance, Supply, Medical and HDR teams to identify business needs and pain points.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and process walkthroughs to document requirements.
  • Distinguish between symptoms and root causes to identify real business problems.
  • Produce business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications and user stories.
  • Maintain requirements backlog and ensure traceability through to delivery.
  • Prioritise requirements working alongside the Head of IT, Projects & Reporting.

Process Mapping & Improvement

  • Document current-state business processes and identify inefficiencies and risks.
  • Develop future-state process designs alongside stakeholders and IT teams.
  • Support process automation and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date process library for operational and compliance purposes.
  • Conduct gap analysis and present findings to support decision-making.

Project Support & Delivery

  • Support projects through the full lifecycle from scoping to implementation review.
  • Produce business cases, impact assessments, scope documents and test plans.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) activity and obtain sign-off.
  • Support change management communications and training documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Track issues, risks and actions across live projects.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Present findings, recommendations and options clearly.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations around scope, timelines and priorities.
  • Act as a point of contact for business-side IT project queries.
  • Build consensus around proposed solutions.

Governance & Compliance

  • Produce documentation supporting ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials compliance.
  • Ensure solutions align with UK GDPR and data protection obligations.
  • Support supplier engagement and technical proposal reviews.
  • Maintain internal policies, procedures and operational documentation.

Skills & experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Business Analyst or equivalent requirements-led role.
  • Strong ability to gather, analyse and communicate business requirements.
  • Experience documenting requirements through workshops, interviews and process walkthroughs.
  • Experience producing process maps and functional specifications.
  • Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Experience conducting gap analysis and process improvement work.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis capability.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear and professional communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with legal case management systems or workflow platforms.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Power Automate or integration tooling.
  • Experience in legal services, medico-legal, insurance or regulated sectors.
  • Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.
  • BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis or equivalent.
  • Understanding of UK GDPR and compliance-led environments.
  • Experience working with third-party technology suppliers.

Education & qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent demonstrable professional experience.

Professional

  • BCS Business Analysis qualification or equivalent desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in a Business Analyst or closely related role involving requirements gathering, process analysis or service transition.
