Experience at MLA: Stacey McDonnell

Leading MLA's dedicated Case Management service is Stacey McDonnell, who originally began her career with MLA in 2011 before returning to the business earlier this year after nine years away.

Bringing valuable experience from outside the industry, Stacey now oversees one of MLA's most specialist services, supporting solicitors with complex Personal Injury and Industrial Disease instructions requiring multiple experts, specialist treatments and detailed coordination.

We caught up with Stacey to discuss what brought her back to MLA, what makes Case Management different and why dedicated support is so important for more complex claims.

You first joined MLA in 2011 before returning earlier this year. What made you decide to come back?

Working for the ambulance service over the last nine years gave me valuable life experience, but the unsociable hours and pressures of the role eventually took their toll.

MLA is where my career started, and I've always been passionate about the work we do. Coming back felt like the right move and has given me the opportunity to continue developing as a manager while doing a job I really enjoy.

For those unfamiliar with Case Management, can you explain what the service involves and the types of cases you typically support?

Case Management supports more complex Personal Injury and Industrial Disease claims where clients need reports from specialist experts or additional treatment and diagnostics.

That can include coordinating Neurologists, Vascular Surgeons and Plastic Surgeons, alongside services such as Physiotherapy, MRI scans and Nerve Conduction Studies. Our role is to manage everything from instruction through to report delivery.

Case Management is one of MLA's more specialist services. What makes this area of work different from more standard medico-legal instructions?

These cases often involve multiple experts, so communication and organisation are key.

Our clients have a dedicated Case Management team looking after their files from start to finish, ensuring every instruction is carefully coordinated and clients always have someone familiar with their case to speak to.

What do you think clients value most when working with MLA's Case Management team?

We're a relatively small team, which means our clients know they'll be speaking to someone who is familiar with their case. They can speak directly with someone who understands where the instruction has reached and can provide meaningful updates straight away.

That consistency helps build strong relationships and gives clients confidence that their cases are being managed carefully throughout the process.

Having experienced MLA both earlier in your career and now returning years later, what do you enjoy most about working here and how has the business evolved?

The medico-legal industry is constantly evolving, and I enjoy learning about new work types and finding ways we can continue supporting our clients.

It's also been great to come back to a business that feels so familiar. I've been welcomed back with open arms and it genuinely feels like I've never been away.
